Mary Bono Mack, a Republican from California, also ended up losing her seat. She was replaced by a Democrat. Being a staunch ally of the entertainment industry, Mack was also a supporter.Joe Baca and, another California Democrat, lost his seat to another Democrat. Like the other two Congress members who must now look for other employment, he was a supporter.
Representative Elton Gallegly, supporter announced that he would not be seeking reelection for his seat.
Other supporters who lost their seats include Representative Tim Holden, a Democrat from Pennsylvania and Representative Dan Quayle, a Republican from Arizona. Ars Technica points out that, while both of these representatives were supporters of they withdrew their support after the tremendous Internet-based protest that the act brought about.
While this may be good news for privacy advocates – and even cause for a little schadenfreude – Hollywood retains a cozy relationship with Congress. At the moment, the are implementing their six strikes program to discourage which, unfortunately, means that your Internet activity is likely being monitored right now.
Voting is one option for getting rid of threats to Internet privacy. VPN are another.
